Removal of security gate on fire escape window
I absolutely hate the security gate that blocks my apartment window. I asked my landlord to remove it because there are no children living here, but he said it's for my protection from anyone trying to enter from the fire escape.
I understand the concern, but I genuinely don't feel unsafe and always lock my window closed at night. My apartment does not face the street, and I just don't want it. It is impossible to clean, rusted and disgusting honestly.
I can't find anything about this being a mandated requirement to have in NYC and truly none of my friends have one. I have lived in the city for 5 years and my apartment is the only I've seen with it...and I used to live in an apartment facing the street, so it would've actually made sense to have there.
Can I push to have him remove it?
