Has anyone successfully added a GBA link port to a DS Lite for real GBA trading?
Hi everyone,
I have a technical question about a possible DS Lite hardware mod.
I know that the DS Lite can play GBA cartridges, but it cannot normally use GBA link cable features, because it does not have the GBA link port. My question is not about normal use. I am wondering whether anyone has ever successfully added a physical GBA link port to a DS Lite, for example by taking the port from a GBA motherboard and wiring it to the DS Lite motherboard.
The specific goal would be to use original GBA Pokémon cartridges and perform real trades between Gen 3 games, such as Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen.
I understand that the main problem is probably not the connector itself, but whether the DS Lite exposes the required GBA serial link signals somewhere on the board. So I am looking for any confirmed technical information, such as:
- Has anyone found the GBA serial link lines on a DS Lite motherboard?
- Are the required SO, SI, SD, SC, VDD, and GND signals available anywhere?
- Does GBA mode on the DS Lite even activate the serial link hardware?
- Has anyone documented a working mod with photos, pinouts, or test results?
- Has anyone actually tested this with Pokémon trading or another GBA multiplayer game?
I am not asking whether the DS Lite supports GBA trading officially. I know it does not. I am asking whether there is any known hardware level mod or reverse engineering attempt that made it work.
Any links, photos, old forum posts, schematics, failed attempts, or technical explanations would be very helpful.
Thanks!
