All Garmin inReach devices I have used are brain dead. UI stuck in the 80s, website functionality from the 90s. I guess they do the job, but it feels like Garmin is just milking us and not putting in any effort to make things better.

Is the inReach Mini 3 any better? Does it still use the god-awful Garmin Explore website and app? Are the 3 checkin message still mostly useless (who the f**k needs a "I am starting trip" and "I am ending trip" in 2 of the 3 ultra valuable positions).

Are there any modern options for 2 way comms? No, an iPhone is not nearly robust enough, sat phone costs too much for my occasional use. I already have a PLB but when I am on more challenging trips I prefer letting my wife know every evening that I am still OK.
