Help! High school teacher moving to primary grades (K-3)
I have been working as a secondary teacher in BC (Alt Ed school grades 8-12) for the last 7 years but I am moving to a new town and have just applied to a K-3 position (small rural school, inquiry-based learning/part forest school). I have substitute taught in lots of K-3 classrooms (and enjoyed it), and prior to being a teacher I worked a few daycares and was a gymnastics coach, so I am super comfortable with little kids. However I know nothing about teaching foundational literacy and numeracy and feel like K/1 teachers especially are magicians! They somehow know all the songs and routines and resources and have all resources and doodads for teaching this stuff. As a sub in K/1 I just followed the teachers' super detailed plans and the kids basically taught me the songs and routines, but holy cow how do you even be a K-3 teacher?! Please let me know! Any advice? resources? Free online courses?
