Lack of accommodations in higher education
Basically I have a disability that affects my fine motor skills, it makes writing for long periods difficult. My university let me have a scribe (someone who writes for me) because of this however they don’t give me a subject specific scribe.
I do a maths based subject and the scribes don’t have enough subject knowledge to know what I mean when I say a derivative or integral. So they can’t draw the symbols I need them to. It means I have to end up writing the answers in the exams which causes me a lot of pain and often it’s not possible.
I’ve raised this issue but the university have shrugged their shoulders and said oh well. I think I’m posting here for some sympathy from people who might understand why this upsets me. But also I was wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences and if so how was it resolved?
