Super Smash Bros. Melee+
The sequel to my concept for Super Smash Bros.+, Super Smash Bros. Melee+ is the Melee character and stage rosters doubled in size! Once again inspired by u/Effective_Carpet_391 making Smash Series Doubled series, I've carried over all characters from Smash 64+, brought in the rest of Melee's vets and added 21 newcomers, bringing Melee's 26-character r0ster up to 52 characters! The rule that the character must be from before Melee's original release date is still in place as well. Here's a quick run-through of each new character:
Daisy - Using her latest design from Mario Party 3, Daisy is fittingly a Clone Fighter of Peach in this, but has different properties to her moves to make her different. In general, she'd be a slower, but stronger Peach.
Dry Bones - Sorry, I had to. Uses his Super Mario World design, and I can imagine him fighting similarly to how I envision him in Smash Dreams.
Waluigi - Also using his design from Mario Party 3, Waluigi is actually the newest character on this r0ster, having only appeared since July 2000 on Mario Tennis. His moveset is limited to using only tennis racket attacks, but some moves and animations could also be taken from Mario Party 3.
Diddy Kong - Using his Donkey Kong 64 design, he would fight the same way he does in the Akaneia Build, which is basically just his Brawl moveset with Melee physics.
King K. Rool - Also using his Donkey Kong 64 appearance, his moveset from Smash Ultimate would fit him well with Melee physics.
Wolf - Design from Star Fox 64, he would use a moveset from the Akaneia Build and Smash 2, which is a mix of moves from Brawl, Ultimate and a couple of Fox's Melee moves.
Meta Knight - Using his appearance from his Melee trophy, which is by extension based on his Kirby Super Star design, Meta Knight's moveset is based on his Beyond Melee version, which is basically a modified Project M moveset, with a different Shuttle Loop that's similar to Smash 4/Ultimate's but only hits once.
Ridley - Design from Super Metroid. His size would be close to between Donkey Kong and Bowser. While there are a couple of custom Ridley movesets from Melee mods and Project M, I think aspects from Smash Ultimate should be included as well, such as Skewer.
Sheik and Zelda - No transformation here. Both will play separately and have their own Down Specials.
Meowth - Design from Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2. Was originally going to add him in Smash 64+, but I chose Charizard over him, so now here he is. Would play as a small-sized lightweight rushdown character with immense speed in his mobility and attacks.
Scizor - Design from Pokemon Stadium 2. Yes, it's a very popular choice for a character, especially for the Melee era. It was actually between Scizor and Heracross, but ultimately went with Scizor since I like its design more. Would play as a medium-sized heavyweight brawler character with damaging rapid attacks, but slower strong attacks.
Suicune - Design from Pokemon Stadium 2. Another popular choice for a Gen 2 Pokemon character, especially with its status as a mascot Pokemon for Crystal, I think it would fit well and contrast nicely with the other Pokemon characters. Would play as a large-sized mediumweight zoner character with amazing ranged attacks, but poor close-range power.
Ganondorf and Ganon - Ganondorf in this version has very little Captain Falcon code, instead he's much closer to Mage Ganondorf in Smash Bros. Legacy XP, with his Smash Attacks from Ultimate. That being said, Ganon is now here as a clone fighter of Ganondorf, with a design that mixes his appearances from The Legend of Zelda and A Link to the Past. He uses his Trident instead of the Ganondorf's sword.y
R.O.B. - Design would be much more closer to his actual toy-like appearance. Moveset with be mixes from Brawl, Smash 4, Ultimate and Project M.
Duck Hunt - Design would be close to how he looks in Smash 4 and Ultimate, but with Melee's style (it's hard finding a Melee-styled Duck Hunt dog render lol). Moveset from Smash 4 and Ultimate would work the same here.
Ayumi - Yep, a character originally considered by Sakurai for Melee makes her appearance here. I've seen a couple of mods give her a couple of Zelda's moves with other moves involving swinging her briefcase around as a weapon. So, that could work perfectly here. What I also wanted to implement for her is a clue system similar to Phoenix Wright in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, where clues will appear throughout the stage and she can collect them to unleash a powerful attack of sorts that affects opponents around her.
Mike Jones - There were many characters to consider for this retro spot. Mach Rider, Balloon Fighter, Urban Champion. But ultimately, I went with a personal favorite of mine, the protagonist of StarTropics, Mike Jones. While he may end up fighting similarly to Ness, but would be much more of a brawler with spacing tools with his baseball bat, yo-yo and laser gun.
Conker - Specifically the Bad Fur Day version, minus any alcohol, vulgarity, and innuendos for obvious reasons. I was originally going to add him in Smash 64+, but technically Bad Fur Day came after Smash 64, so this version wouldn't have been used.
Bond - James Bond. Specifically from GoldenEye 007 for obvious reasons. While very unrealistic, this is a fun "What If..." to include. Plus, he was one of the most requested characters back in the pre-Melee days. Moveset-wise, he would borrow a couple of moves from Snake, with the same rule of using more explosive weapons rather than bullet weapons.
Snake - A special request that finally got fulfilled. While Metal Gear Solid 2 had JUST released before Melee, it still feels too new to base Snake off it. So his design is still retained from Metal Gear Solid. His Cypher recovery is still preserved though. His moveset in general would be a mix between Brawl and Ultimate, with a splash of Project M as well.
Sonic - Another special request guest character, Sonic is based on Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Moveset is mostly from the Akaneia build, Smash 2, and Project M.
Crono - I had one more spot for a third party character, and I wanted to pick a character that was popular with Nintendo during this era. So I picked one of my most wanted characters for Smash in general. And we would play pretty much the same as I imagine he would in my Smash Dreams concept as well.
All Melee stages return alongside 29 more stages for a total of 58 stages. Technically a lot of them are returning from Smash 64+, but this time all have a remastered look to fit Melee's artstyle. Although with some of the icons, you're just going to have to imagine it, since it's hard to find the visuals for it, like with Planet Clancer and Twilight City.
The number of songs on each stage has also increased from two to three. A lot of them are sourced from future games, but are only arrangements for songs from before Melee's time.
I don't think I'll go to Super Smash Bros. Brawl+ with this. This took so long to put together lol. I think I'm happy ending it off here. Also, the last three slides are character and stage select templates in case anyone wants to use them.
