Totally blew an interview…but still got a second chance. Very refreshing.
Context: I had an interview with a Sales Director for a cybersecurity company that I’m super excited about the possibility of gaining employment with. It’s a different industry that I’m currently in but I’m selling to the same type of IT leaders. I’m also at the ENT level now and interviewing for a Commercial role.
Anyways, I got a massive bloody nose right before. Delayed the start of our convo for 5-10 mins. They were very nice about it, but I never got back on track. I got flustered, and it snowballed from there. My normal confidence was out of the window and I failed to give short, confident, and concise answers. I haven’t felt the way I did during that convo in quite sometime. I’m a great at conversations and feel like my greatest strength is my ability to speak eloquently and be concise.
Luckily I called it out and they rightfully stated they had hesitations but appreciated my ability to self reflect. My referral spoke highly of me ahead of the call which is part of the reason why they are giving me a second chance with a convo with the manager.
Any advice on overcoming this setback? I think I know what I need to do but curious if anyone has been in a similar situation where it still ended up working out.
Thank you!! We will learn and grow from this experience one way or another.
