Ode to the Tin Sandwhich

I had my friend write me this good-luck poem about harmonicas for my tip box, and I wasn't expecting to feel as seen as this made me.

Playing on the street each weekend for the past year has been one of the best decisions I've made for myself in a long time. I've gotten to hone my skill and improved drastically. I've become part of an incredible community of artists that breathe life into the city through poetry, tarot, painting, juggling, clowning, music, and more. I've become a staple that people expect to see and hear when they go out downtown. I've made so many new friends (some of whom were unsheltered people who have since found housing ❤️ and unfortunately, some i may never see again)

I've had good nights and made stupid amounts of money, and I've had incredibly challenging and rough nights that have tested my resolve.

I've wanted to be a Harmonica player since I was 13. My mom bought me my very first "official" harmonica that wasnt a toy, and I spent years terrorizes my family and friends with horrendous metallic screeches and abbrasive multi-chorded heavy breathing until i started to feel confident enough to play more seriously and publicly. I'm incredibly blessed to have so many gifted artists in my life who've given me so much love and support and inspiration to pursue the things that sing to my heart. I don't know who I would be without a Harmonica in my mouth, and it's not for the lack of love from these people.

Here's to the tin sandwich and to my 13-year old inner child, elated because we're following our dream.

Unpopular Opinion?

Every single time someone is talking about Harmonica greats, and they mention Bob Dylan, my soul breaks a little.

Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Big Mama Thornton, Big Walter Thornton, and Sonny Terry absolutely DO NOT deserve to be spoken about in the same vein as the prince of "Don't bother learning to use it fully. Just breathe in and out on it in different spots, and that's good enough. " Bob Dylan

Also, Neil Young is a hack.

Harmonica Improv from Salt Lake

Hey! I'm new to this reddit page. I'm from Salt Lake and I wanted to introduce myself with a video of what I do.

I love this one in particular because of how the city sounds blend with the music.

A Little train-sound improv while busking

I'm a busker in Salt Lake. Sometimes, I get videos of myself. This is one of them. I just wanted to share with everyone and hear your thoughts.

SLC Street Musician searching for videos of me playing harmonica

I'm a Harmonica player in Salt Lake. You may have seen me busking downtown on 3rd and main next to the typewriter poets.

I've been out consistently Friday and Saturday nights for over a year and a half. During that time, I've had dozens of people take videos of me playing, but I seem to only have just a handful because it's hard to film myself while using my phone for backing tracks.

I'm putting this out there in hopes that maybe anyone here has seen me and has video of me playing! Any length and any quality is fine! I just want to keep videos for my collection and maybe post a couple.

Watercolored paper use suggestions

Hello!

I know very little about typewriters, but I have a lot of friends in my community who use them for their poetry.

Recently, I've been trying to find as many creative and artistic papers that I can for them because I just think the whole thing is so damn cool, and I want to support them. However, really fancy paper is expensive and sometimes hard to find.

One of these friends suggested that maybe watercolor painted papers could be a cheaper and more personal alternative, so we tried a few.

It produced 2 results:

-The color was very saturated and left a residue of paint dust behind on the typewriter. I don't want to cause them extra stress in cleaning their typewriter after every use; however,

-if it's not saturated, you can barely see any color to make any significance worth using.

So I am seeking support and advice: Has anyone worked in this medium before that could offer some suggestions?

I think the solution is simply to leave dry sections of the paper for them to type on, but that doesn't exactly prevent the dust from getting on the roller in other areas of the painting. Ultimately, I'm worried about paint dust ruining the typewriter.

Thanks again, everyone!

- Just a guy who loves his friends' art
