Large-type Remington Rand

Large-type Remington Rand

I haven't seen such a large typeface before stumbling across this machine, dusty and neglected, in a nearby garage. One square on that grid paper is 1/4-inch

First typewriter- Is this a good deal?

Hi all!

I’m looking to purchase my first typewriter and found this on marketplace. Is this a good deal? Any advice on what to look out for if not?

Uses of typewriters

Hello, I'm new to typewriters. I bought this Olivetti ET Compact 60 and it's truly wonderful to use. I'd like to know, as beginners, what you use your typewriters for.

Birth-Year Typewriters...

I did not purposely start out buying so-called birth-year typewriters but I ended up with two (2) of them in my collection of way-to-many machines.

I am 72 years old, having a birth-year of 1954.

I bought these two machines based on condition and did not know their manufacture date until I had them in-hand.

My 1954-made Underwood Quiet Tab Deluxe was the 2nd. machine in my collection.

And my 1954-made Princess-Matic was the 61st. machine in my collection. This one is a re-badge of the Princess 300, issued as part of the Will Scheidegger typing school home-study course. I brought this one in from the UK to the States for $ 108 USD all-in including shipping costs. The Princess 300 seem to be sold here in the States for obscene prices of $ 300, 400, or more. I call in my poor-man's Princess 300.

Royal Quiet De luxe

I just got this at a junk shop. It functions really well, though a tuneup and cleaning is in order. Serial number is not where Internet says it is. Any ideas?

Remington Model 5

Been loving this model 5 (with the big spoon) and had to place it on the chest of drawers beside a lamp that was made from an old church window.

Looking for like-minded individuals.

I recently got into typewriters and have fell in love with these machines. The stories they could tell. The feel. The sound. Watching my thoughts hit the page as I think them.

I use my Smith-Corona Silent-Super everyday for journaling but I want to use it more.

I’m looking for the possibility of finding a/some like minded individuals to type letters to. I guess this would be a penpal.

Just In Case...

Just in case you are in need of a case...

Once in a while I will buy a machine that is missing its case. Usually because the machine is in excellent condition and hard to pass up.

With time, I found perfect-fit cases for my orphan machines.

First machine is my Torpedo 18s which fits perfectly in a spare Underwood-Olivetti 21 case.

Second machine is my Halda P in a Sears electric typewriter case (made in Japan).

Finished typewriter art

I finished my piece much quicker than I thought I would

Made with a rather mysterious Olympia SM2 (I think) typewriter, that was found when cleaning out our garage, Our garage isn’t a typical messy garage used for storage, so we have no idea how it got there and none of our family have any recollection of buying it.

When we found the typewriter it was in rather good condition other than it was so very grimy, and I’m assuming it was because whoever used to own it was a heavy smoker. So I spent my afternoon yesterday siting in the garden cleaning it.

It took a little while to get used to this typewriter, as my usual one (an olivetti lettera 32) broke. But once I got used to the olympia it’s been soooo much nicer. Which has made me less sad about my broken one.

It’s no secret how much I love a good fictional detective, and Curently Gabriel book is one of my favourites and with season 2 of bookish coming out next month it felt rather fitting to do a portrait of him.

I’ve never really tried to do a piece of typewriter art before, I’m so happy with how it turned out. Other than his mouth I just couldn’t seem to get it to look right.

Hermes Ambassador

Hi guys. I have this Hermes Ambassador, which I do like quite a lot. It just has a problem I can't quite figure out. Whenever I press a key, the corresponding hammer just keeps bouncing untill the end of the page. It happens with multiple keys. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Book & Machine

Do you draft your manuscripts on a typewriter and if so do you acquaint a certain machine for the genre/idea?

Found this in the attic, what do you know about it?

Found a mystery box in the attic of our new house and after picking the lock it turned out to be an underwood typewrighter. I want to fix it, it still works but halfway through the page the cylander doesnt move over without help and when its stuck the keys wont hit all of the way.

What kind/brand of typewriter is this and how do I fix it?

So I got this typewriter from my grandparents, my grandpa (70) used it when he was in school in northern Norway as a kid, but he cant remember the brand or anything else about it. And I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure out what it's called and if it's common/rare and so on.

It's also broken, with the ribbon only on one side, clearly having broken apart in the middle and it's completely missing from one side. Is it possible or even worth it to try and fix it?

Work in progress

It is my first time trying to do a portrait with a typewriter, for a first attempt Im pretty happy with it so far, other than his mouth which I couldn’t quite get to look right.
it’s supposed to look like Gabriel book from the tv show bookish, it’s one of my favourite shows!

Facit Fever...

Took me a few years to put together my little collection of Facit (and Addo) typewriters.

All are manuals with the exception of the electric shown in the last photo.

What is the most functional mechanical typewriter ever built?

Is there a typewriter (not electric ones) that has a maximum of possible functions? Tabs, half step, power space, button for jammed type slugs, lever for striking force of the keys, you name it. I look forward to your opinions.

This ‘48 Dreyfuss I found cleaning my grandparents’ house

Flared as inspiration cause I just think it’s neat and wanted to show y’all

I found this Quiet Deluxe stored away at my grandparents’ house. All I did was get a new ribbon and everything works perfect. The slug faces didn’t have any residue or build up so I have to assume it was very lightly used or cleaned really well before being put up.

Smith-Corona clevis repair update: so close, but it won't stay clamed/shut.

Thank you, jbhusker for pointing me to Phoenix Typewriter. From there I was able to find what needed to be done, I was finally able to get it into position. Unfortunately, it won't stay clamed/shut. Any suggestions on what to do here?
