The height is very inconsistent when actuated. I dont want to spend more money to bring this to a shop, so any answers are appreciated
If someone is willing to help, I can DM you videos and photos of it at work.
It sounds kind of muted and the striker does not let it resonate, I am not sure if it is a design problem.
Videos online show the bell resonates well on the same typewriter.
I have polished it (maybe patina was the problem), wiped off the oil, and loosened the screw a bit.
This typewriter is refurbished/restored, so maybe the store owner put a spring in the wrong area, changing the tension? I dont know.
If anyone has suggestions, please tell me, thanks
I received my typewriter yesterday. Normally, on a keyboard, I type around 100-120 wpm.
At first, it was hard for me to type on it since it requires technique. I used it for around 8 hours just typing "The quick brown fox ... "
After finishing that, I came to my computer and did a test. I do around 140-160 words per minute.
That's around a 20-40 wpm increase, at least for me.
Anyone have similar experiences?
From where I live, mineral spirits aren’t common. People say online its really good for cleaning typewriters up.
Are there any common alternatives? Does alcohol work the same?
Which one is more worth purchasing?
The Olympia Traveler De Luxe (~80 USD)
It is in fairly good condition with the case. Repainted matte in Burgundy. I prefer the looks of this one, but i’m not sure about performance.
The Olympia SM De Luxe (~70 USD)
Also in fairly good condition, the case’s zipper is damaged. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it has some foreign letters (ñ, ₱) which I don’t need.
Which one?
Im planning on restoring and repainting mine, but I dont want to damage anything,
The most common production locations for the Olympia Traveler are in Germany and Yugoslavia.
I heard that Yugoslavia’s overall build quality is lower than Germany, so Germany is more preferred when choosing those typewriters.
Since most sellers don’t get all angles, how can I identify where it was made without the badge?
Thanks in advance
