Is there such a thing as a modern equivalent?
So I'm mostly just curious about this, and may not look to buy. I dont have a use for them right now but I could one day for the fact that it may be a better way to focus on work without distractions (also am i the only person who finds handwriting hurts my hands?). I've got a separate lighter laptop for the masters im about to start with that thought in mind!
I've only ever used computers for word processing, things like spellcheck are mandatory for me due to dyslexia. Grammarly is also a godsend. What bothers me about computers, though, is all the data mining and sketchy shit corporations do. We can never really know how much data they monitor. Grammarly could be mining our documents for data, criminals could hijack that, etc.
Also, extremely unlikely, but the fact that both the FBI and the absolute worst criminals they're up against could theoretically see anything we do on our computers isnt the nicest thought either. I'd never be a target by those criminals or the bad eggs in the secret services but someone in the world will be.
Anyway - I cant imagine using something without some form of spellchecker and a way to edit the document before print. I'm imagining a product that does that, maybe you could update the software with a memory stick, transfer documents that way as well, and maybe even have it print documents like a vintage typewriter effectively does. I dont see how any of that would NEED to be connected to the Internet.
I'm aware that a lot of you will be adamant that vintage is the only way to go - is that a nerdy thing, an appreciation for the mechanics and the feel of it or whatever, or do modern ones genuinely fail to the job properly?
