Help! Piece fell out of a 1960 Remington Quiet Rite Eleven, don't know where it goes.

I need some kind soul to tell me where this goes? I know the part circled in red engages with the platen ratchet, but I don't know how. Also, the spring attaches to something in the back. There is a little rod that is preventing the dog from moving up. I am really struggling to figure out how all of these pieces find their place. Unfortunately, it fell off before I had a chance to take a picture, so I am really flying blind here. Happy to provide more pictures.

Fixed shift alignment (upper and lower case letters not lining up) on Remington Quiet Riter Eleven with a basket/segment shift, here’s how.

I had an issue with the upper and lower case letters not being on the same space and couldn’t find any info on how to fix it, I eventually figured it out, so wanted to post how it did it so that future generations don’t have to suffer. It was quite simple actually.

I’ve fixed alignment issues where the carriage shifts, but not where the type basket does. I found a nut and screw on the bottom left that needed to be adjusted. I couldn’t get a wrench flush on, so I used a 7/32 and 13/64 one to kinda swat at it until it turned a little bit, then I was able to turn it with my fingers. Then it was a matter of trial and error, rotating the screw left and right until the alignment was good (or good enough), then I tightened everything back it and viola.

Hope this helps.

Is a Royal KHM too big?

I restore old typewriters as a hobby. I have a small workspace, a desk in our guestroom (see picture for reference). So space is at a premium. As such I normally stick to portables and smaller. I happened across a Royal KHM for $30. Is it too much machine? Too big? Too wide? Too difficult to access all the areas underneath that might need fixing/tweaking? For context, I had an Underwood 5 that was wayyyyy too big. I know people in this sub are very pro "get it!", but I really want to make a measure decision, rather than an impulsive one. Thanks.

Free Orioles baby rattle

My son has outgrown this and I don’t know any other Orioles fans with babies, but I don’t have it in me to throw it out. It’s in good condition and has been cleaned. DM me if interested.

What to do with black pieces?

My 6 year old got a Venus Fly Trap from Trader Joe's, he named him Chompy Chomp, I don't know anything about it beyond that and it's got some black spots and we want to know if/how we should remove it. I've read somewhere that how you remove it can impact the rest of the plant.

Please note I do not have a green thumb at all, this is my first time posting in this sub and in my reddit experience, some of these hyper-specific subs can be very kind when asking for advice and some can be very gatekeeping and cruel, I'm not sure which one this is, so please be kind and keep in mind I am just trying to learn and when you respond, imagine you are talking to a 6 year old. Chompy thanks you in advance.

Big, diverse hardware/tool store

I can't seem to find a good hardware store to buy tools. There are hundreds of them and they're all small, with the same generic stock, with workers who don't know anything and look at you like you've got three heads when you ask where the screwdrivers are. There's got to be a big, diverse hardware store, ideally with knowledgeable or at least not brain dead staff, kinda like a B&H, but for tools. I restore old typewriters, so often I need tools on the smaller, more precise side.

There’s too much room and the ball keeps slipping out of the slot. How do I close the gap?

1960s Remington Quiet Rite Eleven. I don’t know the names, but the ball at the end of the carriage release arm keeps slipping out of the slot because it’s not tight enough. I tried pushing the platen to close the gap, but it’s not working. I don’t know if there’s a missing piece or if one of the pieces got bent. I also can’t remove the platen rod because the platen screw on the other side is snapped off. So I need to fix this without removing the rod.

Spring detached. Where does it go? (Remington Quiet Riter Eleven)

The carriage release lever isn’t working, I discovered a spring is detached but I don’t know where it goes. I have a couple of ideas, but I’d like some confirmation before I attempt this. If anyone has a picture of a function one, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Any good upcoming Estate Sales in the Poconos, PA?

I'll be coming to the Poconos in the beginning of July for about a week. Any good estate sales coming up? I couldn't find any on EstateSales.Net/.com or AuctionNinja. I'm specifically looking for old typewriters. TIA.

Typewriter at the beach

I bought a typewriter (Remington Quiet Riter Eleven) off eBay that happened to be close to a beach, so I decided to pick it up and make a day out of it.

To celebrate National Typewriter Day, I finally crossed one off my wish list!

I can’t even believe my luck. I found a Craigslist post that was two weeks old and I’m thinking, there’s no chance this is still available, but I’ll email him anyway. Got back to me an hour later saying I could pick it up tomorrow (today). It’s in perfect condition, just needs to be cleaned up!!

Can someone confirm that what I have done ensures I can figure out shipping rate and the carrier later?

Hi, casual user here. I’m selling something and am offering free shipping, I haven’t found a box to ship it in yet, so I’m not sure of the exact dimensions, so I want to hold off on committing on how much the shipping will be. I found an option that said “set your own shipping rate”, so I checked that. Then under shipping service, I selected “flat rate freight” since I’m not sure if I want to use USPS or UPS, I find it fluctuates between the two of them on which one is cheaper. Does this ensure I can figure out shipping rate and the carrier later? Thanks

Is this a typewriter tool?

I’m looking for three prong pliers to adjust the linkage on a typebar that is sitting too high. I found this online and want to make sure this is suitable for my needs. The description says they “think” it’s for a typewriter, but they aren’t sure and it’s more money than I usually spend, so before I do this, I want to make sure. It looks a little wide to fit in between the linkages and unfortunately I can’t physically see it, so not sure it is too wide or if that’s just the close up picture. It says it’s 5-3/4” and mark 19, but I’m not sure what that means exactly without anymore context. Can anyone confirm if this is for a typewriter and if it’s the right size?

How similar is a SC Skyriter to a Corona Zephyr?

A friend of mine has a 1939 Corona Zephyr that I absolutely love. I love the green shimmery case, I love the sleekness of the body, I especially love the typeface. I found a Skyriter (online, circa 1951) that I am considering getting because I’ve heard it is similar to a Zephyr, but want to hear from the community. I’m most interested in the typeface since that’s the main thing I can’t see from the pictures, but would also love to hear any other differences or similarities. TIA.

Typewriter keys at a Broadway show!

I’m at Celebrity Autobiography and noticed the border. Any thoughts on which typewriter inspired this?

This team has got what it takes (don't read any of my previous posts)

I've always believed in this team (don't ready any previous posts). It may have taken them a bit to hit their stride, but baseball is a marathon, not a sprint (seriously, do not). Anyone who gave up on them so early in the season is not a true fan (please forgive me). This is a young team that is greater than the sum of their parts (just ignore them). They are truly firing on all cylinders, even when one part falters, they have enough talent on both sides of the plate to make up for it (I didn't know what I was talking about). The pitching is absolute lights out and the batters 1-9 are hot as ever (I wasn't in my right mind). I look forward to some October baseball. Go O's!

Shift alignment issue with 1962 Olympia SF De Luxe

It works fine when Caps Lock is engaged, but cuts off the bottom of the letters otherwise (picture 1). I believe this is an issue with the shift adjustment. I found this video (https://youtu.be/UCaUTrUUZME?si=Daw7rbVmR3gNcBDX) that pointed me in the direction of these grub screws underneath the carriage (picture 2 is a wide shot for context and location, pictures 3 and 4 are close ups of the screws). I noticed at first that these screws were about halfway in so I screwed them in more and it worked a little (picture 1) but still not good enough. I also noticed this screw was very bent (picture 5) so I unscrewed it a bit, but still no luck. Anyone have any ideas of where else to look?

Well, that’s not great

Sigh. I snapped this piece off while trying to unjam it. Not great, you guys. Not. Great. The is machine (1962 Olympia SF De Luxe) has already giving me so much trouble, that this is actually fitting. Lesson learned. On to the next one.

Where does the drawband go on a 1962 Olympia SF De Luxe mainspring?

I had to replace the drawband, but I forgot to take a picture and can't figure out which which hole the drawband goes into? In other typewriters I've worked on, it's fairly easy, they usually have a circular opening or something like that. I thought it might be on the top because there is an opening up there, but when I put it in there, the rest of the drawband slips out and wraps itself around the top. So I've taken pictures of 3 slots in the drum, which one is it? One, Two, or Three?

Sent package back to buyer, they never received it. What next?

I bought something, but it got delayed so long that I ended up buying something else instead. I told ebay as much, that I didn't want it anymore because it hadn't arrived and then the next day it arrived. Well, I still didn't want it, so the seller told me to just write on the box "Return To Sender" and send it back and the tracking number would be the same and as soon as they got it, they would refund me. I did all of that and it's been over 4 weeks and the seller said they never received it, the tracking number didn't work as it stopped tracking when it got delivered to me. What can I do here?
