1956 Dodgers Poster Goodwill Tour of Japan

Found this Japanese promotional Dodgers poster today and can see that it's quite rare from what I can find about it online. The other posters I have seen did not have the extra part on the bottom, so I was curious about that. What do you think? Is this a hit?

Finding Vintage Liquor Bottles

My friends and I collect older bottles of liquor for our vintage cocktails and we've always wanted to know does the estate sale agency remove these bottles/throw them away before the sale?

For some reason, the only bottles we've come across are some nips, jim beam decanters or maybe a half finished bottle of vodka/gin.

Not sure if it's because of the legality of selling liquor or not.

Recommend an Estate company in San Diego

This is a stab in the dark but can anyone recommend an estate company in the San Diego area? I am work to sell my late husband thousands of collectibles. We were working with a company in South Florida but they weren’t great, so we brought most of the collection with us to California.

I haven’t found a company to work with out here so I haven’t been selling things myself slowly but it’s overwhelming. Let me know. Thank you.

Are estate sale companies giving up?

Kind of a rant, king of a question. Is anyone else in the estate sale world noticing a decline in presentation/detail lately? The company putting on this sale is a well known franchise. I was browsing upcoming estate sales and after seeing these pictures, I was just appalled. I know that is not sprite!

what’s the wildest thing you’ve ever found at an estate sale?

I went to one this weekend expecting the usual kitchen stuff and old furniture, then opened a random drawer and found a box full of old casino chips, handwritten letters from the 70s, and a watch that looked way too expensive to be sitting there mixed in with junk.

That’s honestly my favorite part of estate sales. You never really know what kind of life the person had until you start seeing all the oddly specific stuff they kept.

Curious what the craziest or most unexpected thing people here have found was.

At what point do you stop waiting for the ‘right’ buyer?

The story is that I listed my house almost 3 years ago and thought that it would be a pretty simple process. We originally bought the place really excited about it, but after living there for a while, it just never turned into the home we imagined for our family. The layout feels awkward, the neighborhood wasn’t quite what we expected, and overall it just never fully felt right

We decided to sell and move somewhere else and find something that fits us better

But the problem is that selling has been way harder than I expected. Buyers seem picky and it always feels like the market changes fast. I’ve already lowered the price a couple of times and still no result

One woman came to have a look at it and basically said she’d only consider buying if I dropped the price even more, and she left after I said that it’s impossible

Mostly out of curiosity, I reached out to North West Real Estate to see what they’d say, and they actually came back with a cash offer. Weirdly enough, it was higher than what that buyer was trying to push me down to, but still lower than what I originally hoped to get

Now I’m stuck wondering if I should keep holding out for the “right” offer or just accept that maybe it’s time to move on. Feels like this whole thing has been hanging over us for way too long

Tried searching but didn't come up with much. Is Facebook Marketplace the best place to find estate sales?

I see them on there, I tried googling and saw a few websites. It doesn't look like there's a one stop shop to find the sales in my area. I'm thinking Facebook Marketplace is my best bet.

Found Tons of Edison Records at a sale today

My grandpa had a big interest in history and antiques. He had passed away back in 2020, and a few of the things he left to me were his Edison player and some of his records.. have been keeping my eye out for more.

Today I hit the motherload.. an old farm had an estate sale sign put up earlier this week and I figured I would check it out.. I am so glad I did.

The gentleman and his family aren’t moving, they just had to clear a lot of stuff out from another property.. he had built this collection up for over 50 years. This wasn’t even all of it, I missed out on another crate of these records.

He also had a couple players, and even the machines to shave and record new cylinders. We talked for a good while about all sorts of things, and he cut me a bulk deal on these.. he was extremely gracious.

I just couldn’t get rid of the thought of how my grandpa would react if he was around to see all of this.. 😂. It has been a great day.

I know I’ve already said too much.. I just want to clarify a good bit of these are in rough shape. Probably about half are either cracked or really moldy. But the ones that aren’t are in real good shape. Have also found a few that aren’t Edison brand.. there’s just so much to look through. Going to try and log all of these. Match cylinders to their correct tube if I can find it.. just ecstatic

Estate sale find

Scored big at an estate sale this morning. Got it all for $120 CAD ($87.25 US). Wish I had found this before I set up my main system at home, would have saved me so much time and money.

Does anyone know about Cameo Brooches? Impulse buy today at an Estate Sale ($125.00). I quickly researched that this may be carved shell instead of resin. The back of it is slightly concave (not flat) and phone light behind it shines through (has transparent feature). Marked “Sterling Vintage.”

The marcasite work on the border is nice. The piece is really in great unused condition. Although I have no idea as to age, if it is really hand carved shell, or maker (possibly Vintage?).

I picked this up today for $8.00. It is marked “Japan.” I don’t know much about it…but, thought it was nice.

I am guessing made in the 50s-70s? But, unknown.

Got this planter for $5, just sold for $800

For a poor gal like me this was one of my most exciting finds and a complete accident. I bought this planter to put a plant in for mother’s day, but the plant didn’t fit. It was really heavy and felt old, so I started researching it and found it might be worth something. I got it appraised at an antique store that specializes in asian antiques and they offered to buy it for $800. I needed that so bad! Just wanted to share my excitement 🤗 I do resell from time to time but was not educated on asian porcelain and had no idea.

Advise for someone doing their first tag/garage sale

I need some advise. I’m doing my first garage sale ever. You guys are the experts when it comes to buying! I have read a bunch of stuff about tag sales and still have some questions. So please tell me what are your tips, as buyers, for someone like me. I have questions like:

  1. How to price things so they sale right away. I have a lot of baby/toddler items, a lot of clothing for adults and kids, some kitchen/home items and books. I’m not selling any furniture but I have large items like double strollers, high chairs, etc.

  2. What do you look for in a seller? What makes them a good seller in your opinion.

  3. What do you hate at a yard sale?

  4. What are essential items for a seller to have?
What are non essential items but it would be nice for the seller to have them.

  5. How do I bundle a price when someone is buying a few items together?

I would really appreciate all and any advise since you guys are the experts! Thank you so much!

What do you think separates a good estate sale company from an average one?

I’ve been thinking a lot about what actually makes an estate sale company stand out.

My parents have been in the estate sale business full time for about 15 years, and over time I’ve seen how different every company’s process can be. Some people are great at staging, some are great at pricing, some are great at advertising, and some are just really good at making the whole process feel calm and professional for the client.

From what I’ve seen, the best companies usually have a few things in common:

They communicate clearly with the client from the first walkthrough.

They have a repeatable process for setup, pricing, advertising, checkout, and reporting.

They make the sale feel organized instead of chaotic.

They move fast without making the home feel rushed or sloppy.

They give the client a clean breakdown of what sold and what the final numbers look like.

I’m curious what others here think. If you run estate sales, work with liquidators, or have hired one before, what do you think separates the really good companies from the average ones?

Also curious what parts of the business people think are the hardest to get right: pricing, staffing, advertising, checkout, client expectations, cleanout, or something else?
