I’ve wanted one of these in working condition ever since I rented one for use as a prop in a photoshoot earlier this year. And after never ever once stumbling onto a manual typewriter, Royal or otherwise, at a thrift store, antique mall, yard sale or the like I decided to make an offer on an eBay local pickup listing. The thing is in immaculate condition. The platter probably should be replaced just due to age but it still feels good. All the feet are in tact, the escapement seems to be working and the bell chimes. Not really a lot of dust or grime in it either. The only thing I needed to do was rethread the ribbon and she is typing away. The one thing I’ve noticed is the vibrator keeps getting stuck, the ribbon will obscure the typed letters on the page after a few words so I may need to clean that (any advice is most welcomed).

Very excited to be part of the Quiet De Luxe family and FINALLY have a manual typewriter (my main typer is a Smith Corona Electra 110, but I really wanted something I did not have to rely on electricity to use).

I was reading Vemon 259, trying out this new Queen in Black storyline and turned the page and was greeted with this small remembrance of Sam Kieth. Thought it was nice and wanted to share.

Hi everyone. Just back from a vet visit and Charles, our 14/yo had x-rays done. Well it turns out the reason he could be pooping outside of his liter box is because his hip joints are wearing down and it could be painful for him to squat correctly. He does not show signs of arthritis but the cartilage in his joints is severely diminished. He's still using the liter box for pee but will often poop outside the liter box if it isn't cleaned right away. The doctor has prescribed him a 3-day anti inflammatory for his joints but also said we should put him on Gabapentin, .9mg twice a day. We tried it this morning and he was zonked out! Wandering around, looking wobbly, not chatty or screaming (which are his natural states). He still chased treats but otherwise was pretty lethargic. We don't want him to be in pain but I also don't want him to be a zombie for the rest of his life. Also, his bloodwork was stellar, should I be concerned about long-term Gaba use on his kidneys? What have you all done in the past for your cats with aging joints?

I picked up this copy of John Carter, Warlord of Mars today out of a dollar bin. Every corner is bent or torn, it’s missing chunks out of the edges and there is a fine splattering of something that feels like a windshield after a long drive through summer. Other than that! The colors are good and it’s the final issue of the second volume, a cool book! Just because it’s a .5 doesn’t mean I’m not going to grab it (even though it is a bit gross haha). So what’s your most “well loved” issue?

I like digging through the dollar bins, there's something still exciting about it even though you know most of the big ticket stuff has been moved to the priced boxes but everyonce in a while something slips through. And besides sometimes I want that randomness.

In between clumps of Gen13 (see my other post) I found these comics. The Spider-man Wolverine just seemed like a good bargain for $1. I'm unfamiliar with Thunderstrike BUT my nickname has been The Buffalo since I was 18 so I've taken to buying any comic I see with a buffalo or bison on the cover (I still need Friends of the Maxx 3 badly). I am slowly building out my Shadowhawk collection, having been exposed to the character a long time ago in the 90s and then re-exposed due to image's Local Man. This issue features a glow-in-the-dark cover (pic 3)! I forgot about glow in the dark stuff. hadn't heard of Covven before but I liked the art and grabbed the three issues I saw along with Team Youngblood (my Youngblood collection is growing strong thanks to these bins). F5 and Darkchylde felt right up my alley with that almost-trashy early image look. Interested in checking these series' out. Last was Death's Head, a marvel property I'm completely unfamiliar with. I love Rogue & Gambit, they were my favorite X-Men back in the day, so I grabbed these 4 issues. Issue 1 has an incredibly 3-part cover (last pic).

I was pretty excited yesterday to find a bunch of the second run of Gen13 in the dollar bins. I grabbed what I saw along with the *Bootleg* series. There was also a massive chunk of the later *Wildstorm* run that I might go back for but it felt crazy pickup up as many as I did. I've always wanted to collect these since Gen13 crossed over with The Maxx (my favorite). I generally only see a random Gen13 here and there! Have you ever picked up a near/complete run from a shop?

I just received a notification "Time Machine detected that your backups on “backup” can not be reliably restored" on my macbook pro (m1pro). I haven't been using time machine for too long, last year I repurposed a NAS for the sole task of Time Machine. And reading through a short mac rumors forum post about this problem, someone breaks down all the numerous ways a TM backup could *fail* or corrupt so my question is this...

Can I backup those backups? If this thing is going to corrupt on me every 4-6 months, there is a good chance that I'm going to need it at an inopportune time. I have other data from other computers doing cloud backups to iDisk, is that something you can do with Time Machine as well? Thanks!
