What's going on at Rehmet's office? SD9 - Tarrant County
As many of us saw, Taylor Rehmet won a decisive victory for SD9 during a special election, but what I'm seeing from their office has been extremely concerning.
I’m part of a local community organization that advocates around issues affecting Fort Worth and Tarrant County, things like the conditions at the Tarrant County Jail, Mercy Culture’s influence on local politics/community spaces, and the ongoing crisis involving unhoused residents.
During Taylor Rehmet’s first month in office, communication from the office was honestly great. We were getting consistent feedback, responses to concerns, and there seemed to be a genuine willingness to engage with the community, even when conversations were difficult.
Then, almost overnight, everything changed and communication completely stopped. Emails stopped getting responses. Follow ups disappeared. It became noticeably harder to get anyone on the phone.
I eventually went to the office in person because the shift was so abrupt. The Chief of Staff clearly avoided me and hid in the back office the entire time. The woman I had previously worked with, who had been incredibly helpful and attentive to community concerns, had apparently been fired.
What really surprised me was hearing from other staff that they’re apparently no longer allowed to contact Taylor directly?? Taylor has also apparently been forced to resign from his union due to refusal to meet with them after his election win.
I’m intentionally avoiding names or identifying details because I’m not trying to get anyone targeted. I’ve been involved in local politics and advocacy work for a long time, so I understand that staffing changes and internal tensions happen. But I have genuinely never seen such a dramatic about face happen this quickly after someone takes office.
I don't want to go as far to say that Rehmet may have been a Republican plant, but his actions and the actions of his leadership team are certainly pointing this way.
TLDR: Rehmet’s office went from super responsive on local issues to basically radio silent overnight, staff say they can’t even contact him directly anymore, and the one helpful staffer I worked with was apparently fired. Been involved in local politics a long time and I’ve honestly never seen such a fast and dramatic shift from an elected office this early into a term.
