NAS Hard Drive Sleep. Should you enable it or just leave them spinning 24/7?
Should I enable hard drive sleep on my NAS?
I did my research and the general consensus is no. Your NAS is always running background tasks like health checks and indexing that will wake the drives up constantly anyway. Every spin-up puts mechanical stress on the drive, so you are better off leaving them spinning continuously at a stable temperature rather than putting them through unnecessary cycles all day. So what are you guys doing?
