Rant: LGS going by “market value” only when it suits them
Today instead of just buying it online I tried to support my LGS and choose to drive around and see if any store had the precon counter intelligence,
TCG player has it at market value of 28ish $
I told myself I’d be happy to pay 35$ for it at my local store I drove to 4 stores all selling at: 50$, 55$, 50$, 45$
Now that pricing range for commander decks is fine I usually buy em new around 40$ but a little upcharge I don’t mind
I guess the frustrating part for me was that each of these stores had 5-10 copies of this exact deck in stock with no one buying cause they are market at almost double market value
They also had other commander decks like cloud etc that they retailed at 70 or 80$
In my mind what’s the difference between a scalper and a store that wants to charge scalper prices?
Now I don’t mind them marking it up if the market supports that but if I just feel ethically it’s important to also mark it down if you base your prices off of that like it has to go both ways
So long story short I bought it online, wish I could support my local stores
