Reply to the misinformed PSA ENG SCIENCES POST
This post is to address the panic caused by a post today which used faulty logic to predict this year’s cutoff for polimi bsc courses. I’ve edited a comment I made under that post to fit here.
here's some perspective that the post totally ignored-
- it is likely that SOME of the high scorers opt for something better (like sapienza acsai) over this, as influenced by my posts.
- we must also keep in mind that SOME of the high scorers mightve opted to choose polito since the amount of non-eu entering through til jumped crazy this year.
- last year, there was ONLY civil engineering in english and the rest of the engg courses were italian. however, this year there are 4 courses iirc- engg sciences, civil, industrial and process.
polimi is highly competitive, and with its current exposure it is likely to match the previous data. HOWEVER, (repeating myself) the post failed to consider that the cutoff was so high because there was only 1 course to compete in, not 4. so naturally, the competition/cutoff is likely to be diluted and not as aggressive as a figure like 98.
- [edit](IMPORTANT) the post didnt consider that polimi ranking list data, which is managed by students does not take the 10 points of english into consideration. this is a quirk in the archive maintained by the students(as a project). my point being, its def not as simple as 85/90=95/100. for eg- a person having a 1500 sat may have a converted score of 86/90 last year while they may have a converted 94/100. (these figures are speculative to make a point)
to conclude, it just doesnt work like that. the conversion is designed to accomodate different scores to prevent figures jumping like that post claimed. also there are more seats this year and completely different people applying, so no einstein could predict a cutoff. i agree that the cutoffs will be much brutal than we expect, but not brutal enough that people above 90 have to bite their nails.
