The current rules were drafted by the problematic founder of the subreddit and those rules have tons of mod discretion baked into their wording (such as "non-constructive" in rule 3, what's the definition there). Would suggest wording that is binary (it either is or isn't, so for example, politics is either fully banned or fully permitted and not subject to much discretion).
I hear this from people all the time. This is such a London thing lol
Unless your weekend away is via easyJet to Little Britain in the Canary Islands, your actual ability to get away for a single weekend is extremely limited unless you live near LHR.
BHX, BRS, etc. have fewer direct destinations post pandemic, and when you combine limited availability of flights at inopportune times with travel to get to an airport, etc. it becomes a real logistics slog with a lot of time burnt on travel. This is of course assuming use of annual leave isn't required. It becomes a little easier if you can burn Friday and/or Monday as travel days so you actually get some time at your destination.
This upcoming weekend we're headed to Denmark for the first time, it's the first true "popping over to the continent" weekend we've done in my 6+ years here in the UK. Flight leaves early Friday evening after work, but we need to "work from home" from the airport up until then to make the flight times work and we land late local time. Saturday will be a full day, and then it's immediately back to the UK on Sunday because the only flight is around noon.
Genuinely, I'm not bothered too much and I'm very much looking forward to our trip, but I do have to laugh at how London-centric some assumptions about the UK are.
Edit: I lied, we went to Paris for a weekend in January this year, but we did use annual leave on the Friday and Monday and took the Eurostar.
