Updates & Future of the Sub

With a whole mod team, we are collaborating together to figure out some updates to how things are currently run, (and maybe stop automod from being crazy), and come up with a vision for the future of the sub.

Currently nothing is set in stone yet but we are discussing things like, The Budget Comparison Chart: the pros, the cons, and the best way to make it readable and usable for you guys. We're discussing the way we want to handle developers in the sub and how to make things a bit more streamlines for people who are just looking for a budgeting app that works for them while also including those of us who enjoy nerding out and getting deep into the budget itself.

We're discussing the current rules and if they will still apply with any possible changes listed above. And with that we're discussing our automod, how it works, is it serving us well, and what we may change it to in the future. We're also going to try and tackle our wiki at some point as well.

And as a whole, we're just trying to figure out how to work well together as a team, what needs to happen when and what posts need to be removed and why. Expect some hiccups, some changes, and as little chaos as we can manage while trying to figure everything out over the next little bit.

If you have any thoughts, concerns, things you hate, things you love or, any other opinions you can post them below. We will do our best to take concerns into consideration as we make some decisions.

Looking for Mods!

I'm looking for 1-2 Mods who are not actively a dev or putting a budget they worked on, own, built, will be building, will be working on etc. on this sub or the chart. If I haven't already I'll set the mod applications to open. If for some reason you can't find it, view it, send one in you can modmail the sub telling me why you want to be a mod, what experience you have, and if you're any good at google sheets and google drive or alternatives for hosting our chart.

The Chart!

The second Item of help requested is the chart. I'm looking to simplify the chart, make it easier to read, easier to sort, and maybe host it somewhere where it's possible for people to sort the chart on their own since google sheets only allows you to sort from a desktop. Currently I have simplified the form a little bit for the devs. To streamline things there are more check boxes and multiple choice answers instead of write ins. Writing things in manual is wonky for filtering.

Broken or Links and Defunct Budgets

If anyone notices any links that no longer go places or knows that a budget is defunct. Please let us know! You can tag my username in a comment if you want but the easiest way is to please message the subreddit. I try to go through them all and make sure they're still functional as often as I can but, I'm only one person. If you see it, please report it. I appreciate it so much.

For the users!

I have an update for you. As mentioned above I'd like to streamline the chart, make it easier to view, easier to sort, and easier for you guys to use. Google sheets has a lot of limitations but it's free. So for the time being, I have a How to Filter this Chart Guide for anyone who needs it. Also here is the list of filters you can use on mobile. I have also by request (and I don't know why I didn't think of this before) Froze the Header Row and the Budget Name Column so you don't have to scroll up and down or side to side because you forgot what you were reading. Sorry that took so long, it escaped my brain.

I have also added two new columns, one for "Lifetime Price" and one for "Free Tier." They are exactly what they sound like. If a budget offers a lifetime price, you'll see it in that column. If a budget has a free tier in addition to their other tiers or it's free to use or it's FOSS that will be in that column. There is a new tab on the bottom of the comparison chart titled "Removed." It's for any budget that's been removed from the chart and why it was removed. There is one that's not on there because it was removed a few months ago, the Dev messaged us that he was no longer working on the project.

I think I added something like 8 new budgets to the list? Also if you didn't see the last few updates, we've added A LOT of new budgets, we've added a few new columns to the list, and a bit more information for each budget. There's a tab at the bottom of the chart titled as a date. If you want to see raw unfiltered data of what I have yet to upload to the chart, you can find it there. In case you're hunting for a gem and I just haven't gotten there yet. Keep in mind, this is unfiltered data, I can't control what you may or may not see if you click that tab.

For the Devs!

Submission Forms

I currently have several submission forms. One for your initial submission, one for updates and one for users to submit that they have a problem. No one is really using the update form. I'm probably going to get rid of it. If you have one or two minor updates, you can message the sub and let me know and I'll get to it as soon as I can. If you have a fair amount of updates (I'm looking at you Zerosum 😉) You can use the form, please still message the sub, I don't get notifications when the form is filled out.

Form Changes

Speaking of the submission form! I made a few changes. A few new questions have been added due to the new data points in the chart. A few questions have changed from paragraph/short answer to check boxes and multiple choice. That's just to streamline for the filtering I eventually hope to get locked in mentioned above. Having everyone using the same words with the same capitalization is a great help.

Pricing Changes on the Chart

In addition to the above, I have changed the price on the list to only include the "Lowest PAID Tier" you offer. Currently a lot of them still have the old formatting. At some point I'll go through and adjust them all. I'd like an opinion from Devs and users on if we should add another column or something indicating features of more expensive tiers or not. Keep in mind, every entry links back to the budgets website, it should be easy if you find a budget you like to compare based on websites.

Hello all, We have updated the budget comparison chart with some more budgets! If you see any issues with this list please let us know, if you'd like to be added to this list you can fill out the google form, then DM the sub to let us know to add your budget.

Updates:

6/5/2026: Added an extra column for additional information, added several new budgeting apps.

6/10/2026: Removed 2 budgets that don't exist anymore, verified pricing on several budgets, added a column for Budget Founded date per user request. Also updated the form to streamline input as well as add descriptions to clarify questions. Added an update log to the comparison chart in a separate tab so users can see chart updates.

6/13/2026: Added columns for Privacy, change log, founded year, and dev team size

7/6/2026: Added more budgets to the list

7/7/2026: Added and reviewed several Budget apps, added a dev update form for budgets currently on the list which can be found here.

7/13/2026 Added 2 tabs to the budget chart sheet, one for info and FAQs and one for user submissions that have yet to be processed. Also added a new form for reporting issues with budgets on the chart. Added more budgets to the list.

There's been extensive changes the last 2 months on The Budget Comparison Chart, if you haven't seen them we've added a few extra categories to help you make your decision on what budget is right for you. Some of these include, privacy features, if they have a change log available, dev team size, and the budget creation date.

If you missed the previous announcement, Dev posts are limited to Sundays so the rest of the week we can discuss budgeting and what we're looking for or what's working for us without being flooded with 100 budget posts. On that note, Devs, we're still working on the issue for Sunday posts, we had far fewer error removals this past weekend but we still haven't found the cause yet. Next weekend, we may turn off the bot for Sunday to assist with that.

We're always taking comments, if you have things you want to see, questions, ideas for improvement, or if you think you'll make a great mod of a tiny community, drop a comment or send a modmail.

As usual, if you own a budget software and would like to be added to the list, there's a link inside the chart (scroll all the way to the top and right) to get yourself added or if you can't find it, send a modmail and we'll give you the link.
