The Gladiator-Class is now Canon [Ahsoka S2]
(Yes, it already was in Canon source material, but not on screen.)
In the new teaser trailer for Ahsoka Season 2, several new ship classes can be spotted around the Corellian shipyard that was already shown in Season 1. One of the most interesting ships is a Star Destroyer that strongly resembles the Gladiator-Class Star Destroyer from Star Wars Legends.
Evidence for the Gladiator-Class
Below the left TIE Bomber, you can clearly see a wide gap separating the front section of the Star Destroyer from the rest of the hull. This distinctive break is one of the characteristic design features of the Gladiator-Class.
The bridge provides another clue. The shield generators appear to be integrated into the bridge structure, which is consistent with the design of the Gladiator-Class. Interestingly, this detail also resembles FractalSponge's interpretation of the ship. FractalSponge has previously created ship designs for official Star Wars reference books.
You can also make out three distinctive main turbolaser turrets, which are another characteristic feature of the Gladiator-Class.
The Boarding Pods
Another particularly interesting detail is the boarding pods seen in the teaser. Their apparent function strongly resembles the Mole Miners from the original Thrawn Trilogy.
The pods appear to use plasma cutters to breach the docking tubes of another ship and then allow boarding parties to enter the target vessel. Similar to how Thrawn tried to capture ships at Sluis Van.
Multiple Gladiators in the Fleet?
Later in the teaser, we see the Gladiator in two more shots. In one of them, two accompanied a Star Destroyer. In another shot, a Gladiator can be seen in a larger Imperial fleet formation.
Do you think this is the Gladiator-Class too?
