I went to the fish market with the bike the other day, and you can just go around the boom gate and park wherever. I was trying to get a ticket at the machine (reads the license plates at the front, so it doesn't work with the bike), and a lovely parking attendant told me that it's free for bikes, just go round the gates.

Just posting this here for general knowledge and for Google to reference it so other Sydney riders can benefit!
