The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will provide access to certain glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications for weight loss for $50 a month through a new pilot program for Medicare beneficiaries.
>Beginning July 1, eligible beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Part D prescription drug plans will be able to access GLP-1 drugs at a more affordable cost. List prices for these medications are often upward of $1000 per month. Referred to as the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, the time-limited program is scheduled to run through December 31, 2027, and will help expand access to GLP-1 drugs for weight loss, CMS said.
>“This demonstration is designed to make accessing those medications simpler, more predictable, and more consistent across the Medicare program, which means better quality of life for seniors and better value across the health care system,” said Chris Klomp, MBA, director of Medicare.
