2 NSVs this week!
First one; I was walking out of a theater. The doors have ticket booths on either side of the door bank that have mirrored backings in them. I slung the door open and looked to my right as I walked through the doorway, and had a moment of panic that I was about hit someone walking down the sidewalk with the door, or I was about to be run over! It was ME!! I saw my OWN REFLECTION and it took WAY too long to register that!!
Second; I have known my neighbor across the street for 16 years. Have worked with him, borrowed/lent tools from/to him, drank beer with him, camped with him, been swimming in his pool, had meals with him, and had countless face-to-face conversations with the man. I would say we know each other pretty well as far as neighbors go. I've been SUPER busy at work and life, so we haven't talked or hung out much the last 6 months or so.
Yesterday my wife and I were working outside and he was out with his dog, and I shouted across the cul-de-sac to say hello. He said "So that IS you! I didn't even recognize you!" I walked over and we chatted for a bit, and he admitted that he'd seen me several times and went to say "hi", but he didn't think it was me. He said "I never said anything because I thought you just had a visitor or something, I totally didn't know that was you!!"
To be fair, A LOT of people don't recognize me. I leverage that fact frequently. I live in a small town, and hate running into people when I'm out and about trying to get errands done. I don't even have to put on a ball cap and sunglasses to not be recognized in public anymore... It's glorious!
