Cheesas / Teely..

Anyone else done this?

Planning on this being a USPSA LO gun on a budget.

But hoping to kick some butt with it.

Only issues are front grip bushing hole needs a tiny filing and the hammer is stopping the side going back with the cheely grip safety.

Planning on taking the tip of the hammer off, rather than the back of the spur..

Any feedback from anyone that has done this?

I figure the tisas hammer was going to be way cheaper than messing with the Cheely.

Thoughts?

Range report. Day 1.

Got my delivery from MidwayUSA to reload the 429. All new cases, so I got to skip the resizing process.

Though I did test it on a new case to see how it went. Definitely needs lots of lube!

So I loaded 20 rounds. One failed as I went overboard on the crimp, thinking I needed it to avoid them getting pulled out during recoil.

Newb alert. Turned out there were zero problems just taking the flare off the case. I did not lube the inside of the case. That might affect things when I do resize and reuse the cases.

Anyway 2 and a half mags, zero malfunctions. Unless the Burris dot turning itself off counts. It did that 2x, lol.

I decided 27gr H110 was too light, given the 240gr max was 30gr+ So I ran 28gr with my Berrys 220gn fp's.

OAL was around 1.59", ran standard large pistol primers. I would get more fps with magnum. Prior experience suggests 50fps give or take.

The gun is quite accurate if you can control your flinch. I could stack the hits on top of each other at 18yd.

Plenty of blast, but the recoil was actually not bad, soft, but large is how I would describe it.

Pics with load results etc.

429 DE

Long time reloader. Going to hand load this thing.

I see factory blem barrels, so I might pick up a 50AE.. as well, just because.

But I have the dies, powder, primers, new starline cases and projectiles to get started.

Going to start at 27g H110 with a 220g fp at around 1.60 oal.

Looks like I can work up from there. But really I'll probably zero in on something that cycles reliably without breaking my wrist.

Does that sound ok to those who also reload the 429?

I have checked with other data and it seems ok. Maybe I could start lighter, but apparently H110 likes a full load. Or would 25g be a better start?

Thanks

I'll post back chrono info once I'm dialed in.
