Not getting many studies? Check your profile!

I've been in the same pit as many others lately. I've certainly been getting some studies, but nowhere close to the number that I've been used to.

After completing studies for a while today, my dashboard wound up empty this afternoon. I checked my About You page and found THIRTY questions that were out of date and waiting to be re-answered! I completed all of them, waited about a minute, went back to my Studies dashboard and bam. 8 studies were waiting for me.

So for everybody who's wondering where their studies went, make sure your profile is complete!

The Capybara timer ran out. This happened:

  1. The button next to the Realmlist button is active now.

  2. It links to a very generic-looking Gofile page where you can download a 10.2GB zip file. I think we all know what "twmoa" stands for.

If any brave soul feels like downloading this and running it in a virtual machine, have at it. But so far this looks sketchy AF and I'm not touching it.

6 hours 10 minutes until the Capybara timer runs out.

If this is real, I'm asking myself if it's worth trying out since I only tried Turtle for 2 days, 4ish years ago.

If it's the real deal, it'll be interesting to see how Blizzard responds. Or if Turtle players bother returning.

I don't know if it's fake BS or not, but this was posted in /r/wowservers

Allegedly, some TWoW devs went rogue. One of them posted this publicly today:

https://preview.redd.it/2p475cdiw01h1.jpg?width=840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ccecbd559d9f07f627c7803c223d67d08d1c82c

Translation:

"04:00 Akalix caused the termination of this project. As a former developer I cannot accept the destruction of TurtleWoW. We now have a plan - you can visit the website to check it out: capycraft.io"

The site is blocked for people in the US. Another poster used a VPN to get around the block (which I did also) and saw a screen full of Chinese text which translates into this:

Capybara ParkAPAC

Hello everyone, this is a brief announcement.

We are early developers who left TurtleWoW, but we've returned to take care of our "child" again. We've also given it a new name: "Capybara Paradise ," and are keeping it at version 1.18.1 .

It is expected that the process of merging and migrating the data will take at least a month or longer. During this time, players who already have accounts do not need to re-register—this is always your home.

We will be launching a brand new 1.18.1 version server , "Eternal Song Wilderness," on May 17th at 14:00 (Beijing time, UTC+8) . You can log in directly using your existing account. This server will have a multilingual player community, and players can choose to settle there permanently or use it as a temporary base while waiting for the full data recovery.

In the future, Capybara Park will strive to continue the unfinished work of TurtleWoW and continue development. Even if progress may be very slow, we will persist in pushing this process forward.

There was a countdown clock on the site with 3 days and 2 hours remaining.

Who knows if any of this is real. We all know what would happen to Turtle's US-based former employees if this was genuine and it went live. Heads would roll.

We'll find out eventually. Get your popcorn ready.

Any word on how the 1.18.1 data mining/scraping/capturing is going?

I almost forgot - and replacing the client with 3.3.5.

Is the discord open to the public, or is it being kept on the down-low?

In one study, all of the response buttons remained ghosted even though the videos were cycling repeatedly. I had to park it. Then it happened again a few minutes later. At that point I gave up and returned it.

2 studies later, media stopped loading and the "media loading slowly?" page popped up. I wasn't going through this again in a 2nd study, so I returned that one.

I've never seen so many bugged studies in one evening before.

No idea if any of this is going to trigger one of the dreaded "manual review" warning emails or not. Leaving a parked task undone might get me jammed up...who knows. I've only done 2 surveys tonight, but something is definitely broken on their end and stopping feels like a good idea.
