I realise I'm sticking my hand into a hornets nest by posting this here, but just know I love basically everything about this game. The setting, the characters, the lore (that I've seen so far), the minimal UI, the combat, the graphics. I particularly like the way the ammo regen works in conjunction with your energy, encouraging you to use both resources liberally. But this one, seemingly trivial thing kills it for me, and that's the map and navigation in general. Yes, I've looked at the signs...
Control is one of those games that I've had several false starts with. Tried it on launch, it didn't click. Tried it a while later because I was still intrigued by the premise and praise the game was getting - same thing. On my third attempt I finally got further than the intro. This time I'd say I got about 8 or 9 hours in; what I felt was about half way. Although it's difficult to say how far I actually was, since most of my play time was spent wandering around The House unable to find where the fuck I was supposed to go.
I'm now on my 4th attempt and find myself falling into exactly the same traps. I keep wandering in circles, trying to go to the area on the map that is indicated, only to find I'm on the wrong floor. I feel massively discouraged to explore because I feel if I wander off the main path I'm just going to get turned around and find myself lost again.
If I could install a mod that gives me a Skyrim arrow that I could toggle I think I would have a great time with Control.
TL:DR: I can't figure out where to go.
