Is there a name for creamier Japanese rice preparations?

I used to work in a Japanese restaurant, with chefs from Japan. Often times, for lunch, they used to make us variations of rice dishes. But they were not fried rice. The texture was creamier, more comparable to risotto. I’m guessing cooked in some variation of soy, dashi, mirin, with mushroom, some veggies and some kind of protein. Is there a dish, or family of dishes that fit this description? Or do you think it was something they improvised? I would love to try to find some recipes to try to recreate something comparable.

Thanks in advance.
