Extreme skin irritation after grooming
My dog (14 year old male cavachon) went to the groomers today, and shortly after I brought him home I noticed that there was an area that was hurting him when I pet him. I investigated further and noticed an area on upper his back that was dark red, irritated, and swollen.
I texted the groomer and received the response: “Oh I'm so sorry, I forgot to show you. It was really old pimples. They pussed when I went over them with the brush so I cleaned them really well and they should go away in a few days. There were two.”
My dog does have a few lumps and bumps on his skin (mostly sebaceous cysts, nothing my vet worried about during his last exam), but I think this area is beyond that. There is at least one other spot on his back that does appear to be a popped cyst and it’s much more mild, and doesn’t really seem to bother him much.
I’ve attached two video links below. In the first one I start by showing the irritation and then move to a healthy patch of skin for comparison. I go back to the area of irritation and then compare it to the spot that looks like a normal popped cyst. As you can see in the video that area is sensitive to the touch and very clearly irritated, whereas the other spot is mild and doesn’t evoke any reaction. The second video shows more of the irritation, just so you have ample view of the condition of his skin there.
I’m thinking of scheduling an emergency visit with his vet. He doesn’t seem to be in any pain unless the area is touched, but I’m still very concerned with it. Until then any advice/tips/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
