Do kids no longer enjoy watching farm equipment?

I've been a farmer my whole life do primarily dairy farming with some grain farming as well. I can remember, ever since I learned to run a tractor, people stopping at the side of the road to let their kids watch the tractors' work. We'd be beside houses, and kids would be in the yard waving and watching. A few have even asked to go for a ride in the field for a bit.

But for the past couple of years, it's been very noticeably in decline. I recently picked up the lease last fall for a 126-acre field that the airport in town leases out. It runs the length of the airport on one side and an entire neighborhood on the other. All the houses I've gone by planting a cover crop last fall, spread manure/compost throughout the winter and just the past couple of days crimping the cover crop and planting corn I haven't seen a single kid watching. I should even add I haven't even seen one playing in the backyards.

It's probably not a big deal, but it sure is rewarding seeing those smiles and waves of excitement watching the tractors work.
