I built a small Mac app to stop myself from obsessively checking Battery Health

Hi everyone,

I recently built a very simple macOS app that probably sounds unnecessary at first, but it has genuinely helped me a lot.

For context: I was one of those people who kept checking the Battery Health section on my Mac over and over again. Even though I knew that constantly looking at it would not change anything, it still became an annoying habit and honestly affected my peace of mind more than I would like to admit.

So I built a small app that runs quietly in the background and prevents access to macOS System Settings while it is active. The main idea is simple: if I cannot constantly open the settings and check the battery health percentage, I stop obsessing over it and can actually focus on using my Mac normally.

I know this may sound like a useless feature or even a pointless app to some people. But for anyone who has ever become overly focused on battery degradation, maximum capacity, charge cycles, or constantly monitoring their Mac’s Battery Health, the concept might make sense.

The app itself is intentionally minimal. Once started, it runs in the background without any visible indicator. To avoid locking yourself out unnecessarily, I also built in a separate emergency stop mechanism that allows the app to be closed immediately when needed.

This was mainly a personal project, but it has helped me reduce unnecessary checking behavior and made using my Mac feel a lot less stressful again.

I am curious if anyone else has dealt with the same kind of “Battery Health anxiety” or obsessive checking habit. Would an app like this be useful to you, or does it sound too niche?

You can get the App here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DckBPo6Xox0NG288EhQ8Qp-Tir4OZZSC/view?usp=sharing

I also made the project available on GitHub for transparency: https://github.com/HashPoint586/BatteryBlind

Since the app runs quietly in the background by design, I wanted to make it clear exactly what it does and how to stop it. The repository includes usage instructions, a manual override option, and a short explanation of the intended use case.

I completely understand that this is a niche tool, so I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has dealt with similar Battery Health checking habits.
