Lost Media: Johnny Crawford's Naturist Interview
Not sure if anyone on here can help me or remembers this -- so there's been some interest in actor Johnny Crawford of Rifleman fame in the past year over the reported loss of a KXAS-TV/NBC station news interview that he did from the now closed naturist resort Ponderosa in Wills Point, Texas.
Crawford was famously pretty open about public nudity and those who knew his family stated that his dabbling in naturism was basically an open secret, but it was recently confirmed by one of the patrons at the club that he had been a visitor there and had even been a guest judge at one of the club's pageants one year. Allegation is that his family had the UNT archives scrub an interview of Crawford - around 1982-83 - talking about naturism as being about body acceptance and the dropping of flash judgments centered around clothing. Those who saw it referenced it being from the waist up but him alluding to it being a freeing experience and to the residents being welcoming and not star-struck. It was apparently accessible on the archives site until the Facebook post referencing him as visiting the Ponderosa Ranch went semi-viral (as far as Rifleman fans are concerned), at which point the family reportedly demanded it be taken down?
I have no idea if this is true or not but it seems to check out with both independent sources as well as the fact that he was one of the first major male celebrities to do a full frontal nude spread for Hugh Hefner, and was open about it being "no big deal." Has anyone else heard about this or better yet actually seen it??
