Why do companies think it’s okay to lay off someone without warning?
I remember last year, it was a normal day and I had my usual meeting with my manager.
I was waiting in the meeting room and I suddenly see her walk in with the HR and I was so confused.
There was no soul in their eyes as they told me that my position was eliminated due to the change in management. The Hr was literally reading from the script he had in his hand. The manager then left with a quick goodluck and let the Hr continue with my humiliation ritual.
I felt so embarrassed and betrayed. I know companies can replace you easily but it hurts so much. To make matters worse, I couldn’t say bye to my coworkers because while I was being laid off, the other manager quickly grabbed my team and told them to wait in another meeting room because they didn’t want to cause a “scene”. They led me to the exit of the office like I was some criminal.
It’s just so inhumane. The fact that people were laid off from oracle via an email is insanity. We’re humans too.
And yes, it was my first time being let go so it hurt so bad.
