You can’t change a story once it’s been written.

Those are the rules of story walking. Yet Julie was still able to throw the rope to Boyd in the dungeon, thereby influencing him.

So what if: when Boyd walked through the tree and ended up with Martin in the dungeon, he didn’t just end up in a different place but also travelled into the future. That could also explain why Julie was able to change things here. She didn’t travel into the past during her first story walking, but into a future cycle. Perhaps Martin is simply the Boyd of a future cycle and is in the dungeon to break him.

Just a thought – perhaps there’s something to it.
