For context I am 17(F) who received this cheque about 6 months ago for my birthday. I decided a few days ago to deposit the cheque on the mobile app because I was going to the mall and wanted to have a little extra money on hand - even though I mainly used gift cards. The app let me successfully deposit the cheque and I even spend about 70 dollars on a dress. Come this morning, however, I found out that the cheque has been removed without any notice to me and my debit account is 130 dollars in debt. Turns out my mom deposited the cheque and held on to it (as is legally advised) and just didn’t tell me.

I understand that I am at fault for depositing the cheque twice, but i’m a little confused as to why they let me deposit and spend the cheque in the first place. And the money that I spent, is that owed somewhere now, and could I be in trouble? I’m really thinking of going there in person to try and dispute this, and thinking of maybe even taking this to court. I don’t understand why there was nothing to say the cheque had already been deposited, why they let me deposit it, and why they removed it with no notice. I feel like this is a little unfair. Any advice would be helpful.
