Hey everyone,

I’m planning to start a BSc in Physics/Maths in Semester 2, and based on my NCEA results I meet the requirements to go straight into Physics 121.

Initially, I was thinking of taking both Physics 120 and 121 together in my first semester, but I’ve seen quite a few people say that doing both at the same time can be pretty rough - like even handling one of them alone is already a challenge, so doubling up isn’t a great idea for your first semester.

I wanted to ask - is that still a valid concern? Or is it manageable?

If not, I’m considering just taking Physics 121 in my starting semester (since it’s only offered in S2), and then doing Physics 120 in S1 2027.

The other option would be pushing both: 120 in S1 2027 and 121 in S2 2027, but that feels like I’m delaying things quite a bit.

Would really appreciate any advice or experiences from people who’ve taken these papers
Also, any general suggestions/advice on planning a BSc in Maths/Physics would be really appreciated!

P.S: I plan to take Maths 120 and 130 in my first semester (i.e S2 2026). And, maybe Maths 162 as well, but depends on what'll happen with this Physics paper and Gen Ed
