I have a large property with many 2 to 3 foot diameter trees. I have to log them to build my house. They are quite tall.
I was going to sell them to a mill, but my builder said I could make 8x8 and 6x6 posts out of them to support my deck and gable end over the entry way.
My question is... Is it worth it to bring a portable mill to the site, cut them, dry them for 3 to 6 months while I build... Then use them? Compared to selling them and buying wood at the local lumber mill?
Architect said it would be good because I wouldn't get core wood, which splits.
I am not made of money, too many kids, and an amazing wife with expensive tastes.
