Which Species Do You Find Yourself Using the Most of for Stickers?

I know its best to use dry, same species. But do any of you find yourselves using certain species mainly/most often when making a batch of stickers?

Uhh do I try to salvage this maple orr....

Blade got damaged on a maple. I starting taking chunks out to see the culprit. It must have taken the tree YEARS to grow around this. Not even sure I can pull it all out as it bends downward where I cut. I don't have heavy machinery and rely on a winch and log rollers so I'd hate to give up after spending so much time loading this. What would you do?

Found this today. My family once owned a mill on a creek. Any chances it’s from it?

It’s about 48” across.

Heavy. Was under about 6 inches of topsoil.

Any ideas on dates or design?

My sawmill wont run without choke turned on

Hi folks Im having some trouble running this thing smoothly, I dont get enough power to spin the blade unless the choke is turned on.

Would appreciate some thoughts or ideas from you guys on how to fix this.

I have cleaned the air filter.

The rpm seems fine (when choke is turned on).

why we test fit before a timber frame raising

test fitting wall plates this week.

one thing new timber framers quickly learn: small imperfections create big gaps.

a tiny bump in a mortise or a little waste left in a corner may seem insignificant while cutting, but once two timbers come together those small errors become very visible.

that's one of the reasons we test fit before a raising.

it's not just about making sure the frame goes together. it's about understanding how your layout, cutting, and cleanup process affect the final fit of the structure.

for many students, this is the moment when the light bulb goes on.

it's a lot easier to fix a problem on the ground than in the air.

Milled a couple old pine logs the other day.

A bit of waste cutting away the sapwood but the heartwood revealed some ok 1x6's.
