What kind of fiber recovery are you getting?

And how are you measuring it?

I’ve been cutting primarily dimensional 1” and 2” lumber, with some timbers mixed in. Primarily Douglas fir.

My simulations show “good” results at about 70% green sawn recovery, allowing for minor wane on the jacket boards.

A guy I know that works in an industrial mill says they’re around 75% at the log line. They have some impressive expensive equipment though, and I doubt that is achievable on a portable band mill.

Anyways, I’d be curious to know what everyone else is doing.

Log Scaling the modern way

I was able to scale 10 logs and generate a summary report of the volume and expected board footage in just a couple of minutes.

Is anyone else doing this?
