They really did work miracles, did they?
Bones took two incredibly divisive chapters, the latter of which sent people into a deep depression, and turned them into two universally beloved episodes.
Let's start with Episode 170. The big thing they added was a few new scenes emphasising how much Izuku is thriving as a teacher at UA. They weren't originally in the chapter, so some people had assumed that Izuku was somehow stuck in a dead end job, but the anime adaption showed that he loved working at UA.
It taught us a valuable lesson- you can be happy with the person you are, while missing the person you used to be.
We see even more new changes in Episode 170+1. When More was originally published, it made many fans sad because of how gloomy Katsuki seemed in it. For them, it was a shockingly dour ending to his and Izuku's story, to have them be oddly distant toward each other.
In today's episode, that's far from the truth. The two are incredibly at ease with each other, and we see Katsuki grinning multiple times throughout the twenty-three minutes. He seems very relaxed, and not crushed like in the source material.
Probably the biggest change was just one sentence being phrased differently. When Katsuki offered Izuku a spot in his agency, Izuku simply said the following:
"I can't right now".
That is a MASSIVE improvement. It's an understandable and realistic answer. Deku had just become a hero again, and he's still trying to figure out how to juggle school work and hero work. However, he's still open to the idea of joining Dynamight's agency in the future, when he's got it all figured out.
In the original manga chapter, Izuku simply says "Nah, i'm good" with a dopey grin on his face. It was very callous and out of character for him to treat anyone like that, nevermind someone as close as Katsuki, so i'm very happy that Bones fixed this. Yeah, Katsuki is still disappointed, but he moves on quickly, rather than looking completely devastated like in the original manga chapter.
I've always loved Bones because they made Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (the best anime ever made), and Soul Eater, my all-time FAVORITE anime, but these past two episodes have earned them a deep admiration from me. Do you know how good of a job they did that BOTH sides of the fandom are happy with how today's episode came out?
Miracle workers, I say!
