Late diagnosis GD - Drs pushing for baby out by 40+4 (next Friday)
hi all
wondering if anyone else has been through a similar experience. I had a presentation scan at 36 weeks because my midwife thought the baby was breech. he wasn’t breech but the sonographer said my deepest fluid pocket was 0.4 above the threshold so she felt she had to refer me for a gestational diabetes test even though she didn’t really think the 0.4 was an issue. I then started having to finger prick twice a day at home to test my bloods for GD and because I got two higher readings I was put down as diagnosed with GD. I kept getting user error messages when doing the finger prick so I am not even confident I did the testing properly, which I told the GD midwives but they said they don’t retract a diagnosis. in any case at my next scan the fluid has gone down, and the baby is only measuring about 75th percentile. I then had to speak to a GD consultant two days ago who said the baby needs to be out before 40+6 which is the 15th.
even prior to the GD diagnosis I had been put down for an elective section between 40+4 and 41+ something because I’ve always said I didn’t want a hormonal induction (using pessary or gel hormones etc) due to a bad experience with my first baby. so the consultant recommended I could try a catheter on Tuesday and have a back up date for a section in the diary for the end of next week (though I’ve still not heard any confirmation).
I am 39+3 today and wondering if you were in my scenario what would you choose to do? has anyone had a similar experience?
thanks!
