What should I do with my $400 budget? Dead GPU on an i5-6600

looking for some advice on how to upgrade my current setup with a 600$ budget but hopefully under 400$.

Current Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-6600 (4 cores, 3.30GHz)
  • RAM: 16GB (shows as 14Gi functional in Ubuntu, rest allocated to iGPU)
  • Storage: Samsung 850 EVO M.2 500GB SSD + 3TB HDD
  • OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Fresh install, dual-booted with Windows 7)
  • Dead Gpu

The Situation: I am currently running my TV display entirely off the motherboard's integrated Intel graphics. It works completely fine for standard daily tasks and desktop browsing, but my dedicated graphics card is officially toast. I don't need a high-end gaming keyboard right now (using a basic borrowed one), so the entire $400 can go directly into hardware upgrades.

Since my CPU is a bit older (6th-Gen Skylake from 2015), I know that buying a modern $400 graphics card will just result in a major CPU bottleneck. I want it to be a home server and some games like Minecraft. (I do love me some NMS but im not sure if thats even a possibility with what i have)

My father build a gaming pc in maybe 2016, it has 16 gigs of ddr4, which I think is still usable. The rest is dead I think? I hope to rubuild around the ram and case to save some money. budget of around 500 dollars. Found a Ryzen 7 3700x for $120. Should I buy it and what other parts would yall recommend.
