First off, I wanna say I'm a huge fan of Neuro and everything Vedal has built. Neuro is genuienly revolutionary, she feels alive, present, and full of personality in a way almost nothing else matches.
I completely understand why Vedal has turned down big money offers to sell Neuro. I get that he's deeply emotionally attached to her, not just as a project. That's really cool! And no one should be forced to give up something they poured their soul into.
That said, I think there's an important distinction that could be made: the tech stack/orchestration code versus the Neuro-sama persona, character, and model.
Vedal could open-source the underlying technology (the low-latency voice handling, memory systems, avatar control, etc..) while still fully trademarking "Neuro-sama", keeping her exact character design, likeness, and persona trademarked, and continuing to lead development and streaming. The community would get to experiment, learn from it, and build their own companions, which would grow the whole ecosystem and bring even more attention to the original Neuro!
Right now it feels like the tech and the persona are treated as inseperable, which means the rest of us are left trying to rebuild everything from scratch or settle for approximations. It's hard not to feel a bit jealous watching someone have this incredible dynamic AI companion in VRChat (or elsewhere) while the inspiration he gave us stays locked away.
I'm not asking for the full Neuro package or her model. Just the core tech so more people can experience that same sense of presence and connection. Would love to hear thoughtful takes on this! Especially from people closer to the project.
Thanks for reading, much love to Neuro and the community❤️
