Upgrading from the Sony A80J. Would the LG G5 or C5 be better for me?
I currently have a 55” Sony A80J and am wondering if I should stick with it or upgrade to the LG G5 or C5. I'm usually in dim room (I have rgb lights that light up the room) and it never gets super, super dark. However, at times during the day it could get slighlty bright from light bleeding in from the blinds, but not too much. Therefore, I'd say room conditions are somewhat mixed. I've heard that many have to turn down the brightness on the G5 too because it can get too bright.
Part of me was thinking about a C5, but from what I've heard, I should take a look at the G5 too. I'll be watching movies and tv and playing PS5 Pro and PC games in SDR and HDR. For space reasons I would have to stick with 55”. Part of me wants to upgrade for three reasons.
- I'm going to start collecting more 4k blu rays of my favorite movies and will be using my PS5 as a blu ray player.
- I play games more than I watch movies so based on what I've heard, it might be a big upgrade here (however I still want a really TV good for movies too). It would be good for future games too with games like GTA 6 and The Witcher 4 coming. It would be good to have a TV to make them look amazing and better than the A80J. I've heard using Filmmaker mode with ALLM on the G5 looks and plays amazing too. However, I've heard that the HDR contouring issues on the C5 are fixed and that game optimizer on C5 looks good. Although, is using filmmaker mode in gaming worth it and does look a lot better than game optimizer mode?
- Another thing is the 4 HDMI 2.1 ports would be a big benefit. The 2 HDMI 2.1 ports have been giving me issues with my PS5, PC, and soundbar since I already use 1 hdmi switch in my setup and another causes issues.
I'm wondering if it's worth it to spend the money to upgrade. Is the brightness, color, and picture quality be that much better over the A80J for movies and games in regards to both the C5 or G5?
- Would be better for me to get the G5 or C5? I've seen many say that the C5 is the better buy because of value reasons. I'm somewhat fine with spending the extra money for the G5, but I'm not entirely sure and it might be better to save the extra money if it's not worth it. Will the G5 feel like a geniune upgrade over the A80J for me while the C5 might be more minimal?
- Would it be a waste of money and I should just wait and stick with the A80J for now?
