Looking fatter at a lower weight than a previous weight.

I am a 5’7” male and i currently weigh 204 pounds as I lost weight from 302 pounds. What i do for exercise is weightlifting and walking. In the past, I also lost a significant amount of weight from 260 and I was ended around 212 and my main way of exercising was sprinting hills. I don’t know if it’s because of me weightlifting, but I look extremely fat compared to past photos. My stomach is literally protruding through my clothes and I also focus on my abs and core. I do way more than what I used to do as I literally only ran hills. I was able to wear a medium shirt and now i can barely fit a large as my stomach pokes through. I just wanted to know why this happens and what I can do to fix it.
