Upgrading from SRAM DB8

My Trek Fuel+ shipped with SRAM DB8 brakes. At first I was very happy with them. They do have good modulation and the power is totally fine. The problem is I have to squeeze the levers really hard to access that power. On long steep trails that makes it very tiring.

I would like to get tips on brakes that has the same amount of power or more, but using a much lighter pull on the lever.

And also light weight is a plus (Where I live it's not uncommon to have to push the bike up sections. So I'm trying to keep the weight of the bike reasonable).

My first option was Shimano XTR. Do they have the power? Running them with xtr rotors would keep the temperature down and reduce fade.
