Colorado/Utah/New Mexico rides

What would be some of the best, can’t miss pedal single track trails of these areas? For context, I’ve ridden Squamish on my way to Whistler bike park, rode Mr Toads and Tyrolian in Tahoe when I went to Northstar bike park and for me those were amazing days outside of the bike park and bucket list trails. Next year planning to hopefully hit Deer Valley bike park, Trestle and Keystone bike parks, and if I have time hit up Angel Fire bike park. Bonus points for great campsites near those bike parks.

If you could buy any bike directly from the company’s HQ to ride their home trails before returning home, what would you buy and where would you ride?

Santa Fe vs Taos

We’re doing a quick 4-day trip to New Mexico for a concert in September and bringing our mountain bikes. Should we stay in Santa Fe or Taos - and what are the must-ride trails? We like climbing, can handle technical stuff. Prefer longer cross country riding if it’s possible to connect trails. Favorite bike shops?

Cautious beginner question

I’m mountain-bike-curious, but very cautious. I’m a decent skier, but spent years skiing very slowly and very slowly working my way up from greens to blues to blacks. I really hate falling, and hate feeling out of control. Is there a place in mountain biking for me? Like are there super mellow trails out there? Is it acceptable to work through the tricky spots very slowly, or will that just piss everyone off?

All the mountain bikers i know irl are nuts and fly down mountains and crash which I am definitely not about. Just wondering if it’s worth even trying to get into it.

Trails near Ithaca, NY.

Looking for trail recommendations within an hour drive from Ithaca. I’m used to New England tech(North NJ) but prefer a flowier trail when I can find one. I’m most comfortable on blue trails and am bringing a 130mm Stumpjumper.

P.S. Mods should add a trail recommendation flair.

Upgradeing from a fusion 10 will the marin Rift zone 1 be a good upgrade?

Now that I am riding trails more often I have seem to hit the limit of my fusion 10. Its only a nine speed with a cheap coil fork and no dropper. I have looked at buying used but since I don't have a car I can't go to city's that are a little while away. So my local shop is selling a rift zone 1 for 1, 900 cad wich seems to be a fair price looking online . I have been saving up for a couple of years and want a good bike that will last a couple years. If their are any better options let me know.

I also have a budget of around 1,900

Any Durango / Purgatory experience?

I'm going to be in the area for work, and I'll be bringing a bike.

I'm trying to decide if I want to do the bike park, or just ride the local trails. It almost seems like you can do both at Durango. Ride the lift, and do some trails up high, then work your way back.

I'm a mid-level old man rider. I'm not powerful, or weak, I just want to ride some different trails and looking for an experienced input on those trails.

Thank you.

Salida/BV Trip

I have an annual boys trip coming up and want to make sure we aren’t missing any must do trails. Here is our current agenda:
Vitamin B
Fooses Creek
Green’s Creek
Gutz
Cottonwood

Other than Vitamin B we’ve ridden all of these trails in the past. The Fooses/Green’s trails we will ride in a day with two shuttles.

What am I missing?

Any other recommendations? MTB or otherwise are welcome.

Followed Jackson Goldstone down Dirt Merch and A-Line

Came across Jackson and Ryan Griffith at the top of dirt merch, didn’t have my GoPro ready in time for DM but here I am keeping up as best I could on A-Line 😝

Pretty surreal…

How do you all climb so fast?

I’ve been mountain biking for three seasons now and I feel like I’ve improved a ton, especially with climbing. This was my first summer with a xc full suspension and while it’s helped, I haven’t noticed a huge difference in climbing performance.

Still, I’ve been working hard on getting faster on the uphills, shaving off plenty of time in my PRs on some hills. Yet, I check Strava segments or I bike with my more experienced friends and I’m getting absolutely crushed on inclines. I’m in great cardio shape, I’m pedalling hard, leaning low and my seat’s high but how are these guys biking up a hill at double the speed I’m going at? Without an e-bike?

Is it just practice and biking more? I’ve been fat biking all winter and I’m on the trails at least 2-3x a week in the summer months. Love the sport, and I’d like to get into some amateur racing later on, but I feel like I got a long way to go. Any tips or advice?

Edit: Damn, did not expect this many people to chime in on how I should be climbing better, but thanks for the quality advice y'all!

Fox Launch Elite Knee/Shin Guards

Anyone using the Fox Launch Elite knee/shim guards?

What are your thigh and calf measurements and what size did you go for?

And do they stretch overtime?

I'm planning to purchase one online and I can't try them locally in my town.

Hoping that anyone will help.

Why did it take so long for headtube angles to become more slack?

I think the pace of innovation in mountain biking has truly been astounding but at the same time, I am amazed that it took until about 2016 for head tube angles to slacken out. What was going on with bikes in the 2000-15 range? Was anybody trying slacker tube angles during this time? Were they not positively reviewed? Was it because bikes during this time were heavily influenced by cross-country racing geometry? Was it because of limitations in how stiff they could make suspension forks? Even a 2015 stumpjumper has a 68° head angle.
