How do you all climb so fast?

I’ve been mountain biking for three seasons now and I feel like I’ve improved a ton, especially with climbing. This was my first summer with a xc full suspension and while it’s helped, I haven’t noticed a huge difference in climbing performance.

Still, I’ve been working hard on getting faster on the uphills, shaving off plenty of time in my PRs on some hills. Yet, I check Strava segments or I bike with my more experienced friends and I’m getting absolutely crushed on inclines. I’m in great cardio shape, I’m pedalling hard, leaning low and my seat’s high but how are these guys biking up a hill at double the speed I’m going at? Without an e-bike?

Is it just practice and biking more? I’ve been fat biking all winter and I’m on the trails at least 2-3x a week in the summer months. Love the sport, and I’d like to get into some amateur racing later on, but I feel like I got a long way to go. Any tips or advice?

Edit: Damn, did not expect this many people to chime in on how I should be climbing better, but thanks for the quality advice y'all!

Battery issues getting ridiculous with this car…

I’ve complained quite a bit already about this problem with the 21’ CX-30s. The amount of people here in this sub also complaining shows it’s a big enough issue.

The past couple of weeks I’ve been getting a mix of dead batteries and low voltage warnings. Already taken to the dealership, got diagnostic tests, AVR tests and a parasitic draw test. Literally the day AFTER getting it diagnosed and the dealership saying there’s not outlying cause, the battery died. The only thing they recommended was changing it out even though it was less than a year old. So I went ahead and did that yesterday. Changed the battery with another Costco 650 CCA, and Ive been getting low voltage warnings today. I literally drove the car for an hour, it’s now been sitting for 4 hours and I just noticed another low voltage warning when I grabbed something from the car.

Am I doing something wrong here? How can this be such persistent problem? I’ve done the key fob blocking thing, I’ve adjusted the terminals on the battery, I’ve driven to charge the battery, and still this persists. Any mechanics or people who know lots about Mazda, and specifically this model, who could help me out here? This is beyond frustrating.

Continual Battery Issues ‘21

I’ve posted about this before last summer, but my 2021 CX-30 has been having ongoing low battery issues. First popped last summer when I was getting low voltage warnings (a common complaint in this sub) and went ahead and replaced the battery (non-OEM, higher CCA). Car didn’t die again except once in extreme cold weather this winter.

Flash forward to last week and I’m getting the low voltage warning again and then the battery dying. Called the dealership and they once again told me that I need to drive it on longer drives every week and not short trips…which I’ve been doing and something’s still draining the battery. Kinda ridiculous that I need to do 1 hr+ drives every week just to keep the battery charged (especially when the battery’s not even a year old). I’m taking it in tomorrow for an overpriced diagnostic at the dealership.

Has anyone dealt with something similar like this before and know what the culprit could be? I’m getting pissed at this dealership just blaming it on lack of driving when any other functioning car should be able to sit for awhile without issue. Any recommendations on how to get the dealership to actually figure this out and not give me the run around?

Residual oil drip after oil change

Anyone had this issue before? I’ve been changing my own oil for years now and this is now the third oil change I’ve done on this CX30 I’ve had for a year and a half now. First time seeing this. This is my first time I’ve chosen to use the OEM filter and crush washer (always NAPA before), and this is what’s happening. I’ve noticed after the change that there’s a tiny bit of oil that collects around the drain plug. I’ve wiped it clean and it reappears after a few days of driving. How serious? Should I take it into the shop or just do a new oil change with new filter/washer? I haven’t noticed any decline in oil level when checking the dipstick.

Kona Caldera Half-Build!

Got this retro Caldera off FB Marketplace a month ago, needed some solid work as it didn’t have a front brake nor a fork that could support rim or disc brakes. So I switched it out with a Surly troll fork along with some Moloko bars. Updated the pedals, grips, saddle and added some actual front brakes 😂 Took forever to get the right parts in and still need to upgrade the wheel/hub but it’ll be serviceable for commuting for now. First time ever working this much on a bike, so pretty proud!

Didn’t hear this when doing the test run when I bought it, but I’m hearing/feeling this strange clicking sound when pedaling. It’s happens in every gear. I feel like it’s coming from the crankset? I put it up on the bike stand, but much more faint without weight on it. Any ideas would help a ton!
