Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge, Harry Edison - Tour De Force

What can you say about this album? For me it seems like a great Bebop/Swing crossover. Very 30s Swing feel, but bebop language. Interesting and energetic. The playing, of course, is unbelievable. Every one of this trinity has his own unique voice and endless stream of curious things to say. Also, it must be the only three trumpet battle record I've seen. Maybe it's the only one of its kind, who knows. Recommended.

Albums/songs for an acid trip

I'm gonna drop tomorrow. The plan is to make a jazz-oriented trip, to close my eyes and focus on listening. What would you listen to on psychedelics? Mostly interested in non-fusion, but if you got a fusion album that's an absolute must-listen on acid in your opinion, bring it on. I know I should listen to Bitches Brew and Mwandishi period Hancock, it's obvious. For now I'm certain that I'm gonna put on Eric Dolphy's Five Spot performance with Booker Little, especially Bee Vamp and Aggression, Thelonious Monk's Five Spot albums with Johnny Griffin, For Musicians Only by Dizzy, probably some live Woody Shaw, some late 50s to late 60s Donald Byrd, some Oliver Nelson, too. Looking forward to your suggestions.

Best Charlie Parker LPs

What are the best Charlie Parker's albums and compilations that are 1 or 2 LPs max? Also, please no alternate masters and shit like this. I'm tired of compilations where I have to listen to every song twice because there is not enough material to make a full LP. A great example of a good CP album would be Charlie Parker Sextet (1952).

Are there any albums that mix jazz and dub/reggae?

By this I mean dub rhythm, overall vibe, but with the jazz solos and/or instruments.

My definitive bebop list (for now)

Here's 20 albums of bebop as straight and speedy as possible, with as little hard bop or cool jazz influence as possible and listenable to great sound quality. If you want to feel like Neal Cassady on benzedrine driving a 1949 Hudson on full speed, this is what you should listen to.

For Musicians Only is my undoubted No. 1 for now. It's probably my favourite jazz album of all time at the moment. The energy is unbelievable, the stream gives you no oppurtunity to rest, it carries you forward on such speed that your face starts peeling off of your skull. It carries you forward without any particular destination. It has a lot of little destinations that are just jump offs to the other ones and it just doesn't ever end. And the music is oddly psychedelic at some moments. All the instruments just blend together in such a strong and primal union that it feels kinda metaphysical. Everything is so mathematically presice and in its' place that it feels absurd and surreal, like a drifting landscape that your altered mind could draw. The mixing is adding to this. Musicianship is on a godly level, but the mastering here is blasting this music to a unimaginable level of awesomeness. For example, during Sonny Stitt's solo on Wee, Dizzy comps in the background, just playing long notes. But the mastering makes it sound so etherial and dreamlike that you just can't help but enter a trance state. This record feels like being on heroin, speed and acid at the same time. It's absolutely ecstatic and every jazz enjoyer should check it out.

There are obviously some cool or hard bop tracks on some of the albums, but finding just all-classic-bebop records with good sound quality is very diffictult. It's mostly bebop though, probably the closest I could get.

Edit: Forgot the Sonny Stitt and Bud Powell album, it's awesome. And Howard McGhee's 1948-1952 compilations are great as well. Also, if you are into trio format, The Amazing Bud Powell is for you. I personally like my bebop with winds.

What albums/compilations of straight bebop with no hard-bop or cool jazz influence that is not by Charlie Parker do you know? Bebop is one of my absolute favourite jazz styles, but it's so hard to find straight energetic bebop with listenable quality. Hope you can help.

Give me your recs of bossa nova albums with flugelhorn as a solo instrument. I think its' warm sound would fit amazingly.
