Can I still rescue my engine?
Last summer the ZMZ 4021 in my 1989 GAZ 2411 Volga started spewing huge clouds of blue smoke. So I did a light rebuild, replacing piston rings and all the gaskets. The rod bearings still looked mint, so I reused them. Fast forward to last week, when I heard the dreaded engine knock. Immediately took it apart, bearings worn, oil full of metal flakes. Considering I am short on cash, what would be the best course of action? What could have caused this? Or is it just a symptom of almost 300k km?
